Monthly Studio Update - September, 2008

Studio Update:

Gosh. Busy time. In a couple of hours I am flying to Greece to paint for the entire month of September.

Some of you know that I gave a plein air painting workshop in San Luis, Mexico. It was, simply, magnificent. Everything was splendid from the weather, views, accommodations, food, company, talent--and everyone did super work. I will post their works when they come back to me in the coming months.

I would instruct and give a demo in the morning, then I had the afternoons off to paint for myself--but we all did that. I am so proud of this group, their focus was fantastic, and then at the end of the day they were all engaging in their intelligence, humor, and experiences. A great time.

In the third picture from the top left is Sandra, Elizabeth, myself, Robin, and Kristin--Mary was taking the pic.

The paintings are mine. When I got back to NY I immediately experimented more with the plein air technique that I was using, by painting five interiors of my studio. I got so excited about the ease in which I was doing it, I improvised subletting my loft and booked a ticket to Greece so that I could paint there again. All on the spur of the moment. I hope to come back in October with about 60-80 small plein air paintings.

There is other stuff...that I just don't have the extra time for. On my desk is the DVD of the lecture I gave, Figure the Future, it is about the artists that painted the nude and famous individualists in their circle. I haven't had a chance to even look at it, much less upload highlights on youtube!

I am continuing to work on studies for a new life size painting--the canvas is gessoed and ready to go.

Lovers Jumping is moving forward.

Okay, got to pack now. See you all when I get back in October.

Cheers,

Michael Newberry
