Monthly Art Tutorials See art in a fresh way. |

Inspiration It never ceases to amaze me that there is something irresistibly compelling about art. When I look at the Chauvet cave paintings from 30,000 years go, I wonder: "didn't those artists have more pressing concerns than how charcoal and spit adhere to a cave wall?" I know that art can seem like an indulgence, but I think there is a deeper human drive to it--inspiration. Mentoring continues to be a pleasure for me, not only do I get to witness the enthusiasm of the artists in the program, but I also evolve a greater understanding of what makes art "click." The new tutorial for this month is Oil Paint Glazing, which can achieve seemingly magical effects, effortlessly. I am also bringing to your attention two past tutorials, Scumbling, and Warping Negative Space. The reason for their inclusion is that I am having great success with my recently edited works by combining these three techniques. Take your time reading these and I am sure they will help you see and/or paint in a powerful, yet subtle way. Finally, I would like to share with you two life size works in progress, Lovers Jumping, and Moving Forward. One about joy, and the other about conviction. Cheers, Michael

Pictured here, Evelyne is working on a portrait series of musicians that touch her: Debussy, Callas, and Beethoven. Dan is working on a series of landscapes that are inspired by their beauty, and by the people he has shared the journey with. |

| New Art Tutorial: Oil Paint Glazing | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Each Art Tutorial focuses on one creative problem--whether it is about the effortlessness of glazing or about the world of warping negative space. I will guide you through the problem to its resolution. Not only for students and professionals, the tutorials will also enhance the experience for everyone who collects art or would like to. |

A friend and collector
commented on these two paintings:
"Michael Thankfully;
at this time, you’re not doing work of our time: Your
work represents us for further generations‑the future!
Your work is our wish for the future, what we want it to
be, what is possible and what we expect it to be: It is
possible, it’s possible; so why not! Art is the
quietest, most genteel and gentlest advocacy: It is not
powerful except in its truthfulness."
