Michael Newberry’s art is about radiance.
The French Impressionists inspired him “to go back to nature”
and see the
world's
colors afresh. While the epic paintings of Delacroix’s Liberty Leading the
People and Rembrandt’s Danae
inspired his principal works.
His drawings, oil sketches, and large
canvases are uniquely composed. They convey the freshness of observation, often
play upon art history, and, yet, retain a sense of beauty.
For three decades Newberry has uniquely
worked his career, enjoying patronage from
respected collectors and friends. Painting
purely for his love of art, he has virtually
painted full-time with a small fraction of
that time devoted to students and
apprentices.
