Sea of Yellow, 2006, oil on canvas panel, 9x12" $800

I enjoy the simplicity of this painting though it wasn't so simple to make. The hot red background, I love, and it created a big challenge to make it go back in space. Kind of the opposite you are taught in art classes, warm colors come forward and cool colors go back. Here I reversed that affect. I am playing with a new theory of organizing brightness of color, its a variation of the triangulation of light--and I really like the intense bright spot at the top of the bottle, the rich yellow of the linen, the scarlet background and how they contrast with the more muted tones.
