Bamboozled by Red, 2004, pastel on red paper, 18x25" sold

I have an intense feeling of affection for the tools of my art. The surface here is my painting table where I keep all my supplies. Red paper sometimes whacks up against my head and makes me see things in a totally fresh way. Periodically, I will draw with the most shocking red paper I can find. It creates total havoc with my perception of color: greens, blues, yellows, pinks don't take on the properties that I  thought they had. But I find it exhilarating to take this chaos and create a new synergy with it.
