As a kid did you like finger painting? When I was 18 my favorite teacher was telling me that my highlights on a bone in my still life were too weak, he then dipped his thumb in my white titanium, and with gusto plopped a blob of paint to create a powerful highlight, that both felt like real light and felt like paint. I have loved that duality ever since.
In this sea-, landscape the paint is very thick, yet I worked to be accurate in tone and color. I particularly like the movement in the sky, water, and land from the background to the foreground. I love how the light of sky silhouettes the hillsides - it feels delicious to me.
