It is hard to imagine having a bull ring in one's backyard, but there it was. I took great pleasure in painting this. One of the great experiences in painting plein air in a radically new environment is that it hyper-sensitizes me to capture these new feelings and experiences. While painting this I could hear the bulls a little ways off in their pins. The particular colors of the walls and gate inspired me to paint a little differently than I am used to. If this were Greece you might see white walls and a blue gate, which would make it again completely different.
