I grew up in La Jolla, just south of this lagoon in Del Mar. I painted it on a thick misty day. The Pacific Ocean was a few hundred feet behind me. After I finished this painting and was chilled to the bone I ate at one of the world's best Mexican restaurants, Tony's Jackal, just a few minutes away. This marsh land that gets inundated by the Pacific and it was always a landmark for me when driving home from Los Angeles. I particularly love its composition and the melancholy mood.
