Michael Newberry, Hamilton Lake, CA, 2006, oil on canvas panel, 12 x 9 inches.

Ever since I was 12 I have loved to drive. Painting plein air is a great excuse to get in the car and just drive following my nose for light and color. I came across Lake Hamilton this way. Wonderful spot: warm colors, mountains, sky, and water. This section looked like a marsh with the green vegetation, I loved the blue reflections of the sky, and the folding hills behind.
