Longing: A Self-Portrait, 2001, acrylic on board, 19 x 27" Price, inquire.

This is the most intimate works I have made and it touches on the private inner experiences of longing for a soul mate. I have a certain view about art and being an artist and that is about expressing your deepest and most important beliefs. I have realized that many people shut the door on the hope of a soul mate and many react in a particularly distant  way to this painting. One very odd thing is that I don't feel shy or fragile about this painting. Actually, I feel quite the opposite, more like completely free to let the  light glow outward.

Light is such a wonderful concept in visual art and painting. You can use it literally and metaphorically so well. It is also one of the key aspects how I integrate ends and means. This painting has one of the most startling uses of contrasting color hue to create the light. The contrast between light and dark is very mild in this work but the intensely hot hue of peach is pitted against the cold blues of turquoise, cobalt, and blue violet rust. This painting will "pick up" candle light from 50' away and still glow.

4 1/2 imported Italian dark wood frame.
